Mass Marriage
In the 1960’s and 1970’s double weddings really seemed to be the rage or at least the Brady Bunch lead me to believe this to be the case. But in South Koran, Sun Myung Moon, the founder and leader of the Unification Church married 10,000 couples in mass wedding ceremony! Reports say that there were about 1,000 couples were married for the first time while the rest were just vow renewals.
The church (officially called Family Federation for World Peace and Unification) has about 5-7 million followers worldwide and is run by Moon’s son, Hyung Jin, but Moon and his wife presided over the ceremony. They even made it extra special by pulled about 12 couples onto the stage and sprinkling them with holy water. In 1992, Moon declared that he and his wife were messiahs (how convenient!) and also claims to have been visited by Jesus when he was 15. He performed these mass weddings for years but recently said he was going to perform them in more manageable numbers (think hundreds, not thousands).
The Unification Church has long been critized because of shady finances, strange and dangerous behavior - probably even more bizarre than ginormous mass weddings.
Call me old fashioned, call me a prude but I think that a wedding is something more than a dude with microphone and the hope you might be brought up in front of the crowd to be doused with water.

I’ve been there! In my experience, when I entered the church I’m so nervous because many people looking at you.LOL
