Appearances - Do You Allow Your Spouse to Weigh In?

Posted by Heather on October 10th, 2009

So I am cursed with naturally curly hair.  It’s not the kind of hair Mr. Diva can run his fingers through, nor can I take down a ponytail and let my hair cascade sexily over my shoulders.  No, I take down my ponytail and my hair sort of just hangs out for a few minutes before deciding it’s ok to come down.  I took the plunge and straightened it(Brazilian Keratin treatment to anyone who cares).  Now it’s much longer than it appeared in its kinky state.  I won’t go into details, but I have to go back to get the treatment washed out in a couple days and then I can get it cut.  I’m planning on going just a bit longer than chin length.

My husband (like so many men I know) is a lover of long hair.  Bully for him, I say, but I can’t stand it and the work involved?  Don’t get me started.  I had a couple people (read: men) tell me at work that I should leave it long and they are always trying to convince their wives to grow their hair longer.

I have to admit, I thought about my husband love of long hair as I looked for styles but in the end, I have to do what makes me feel good.  And in reality, his love of long hair isn’t nearly as strong as his love of ME being happy and confident with my appearance.  It’s not like I going Sinead O’Connor short or anything.

It’s not that I discount his opinion and I employee some of his favorite things (outfits, perfume, jewelry) to let him know his opinion matters, but I’m still an individual too!

Do you cave to your spouses request regarding your appearance or just go about your business?
