The Importance of Downtime
A couple weeks ago, I took a half day of vacation from work and headed down the street to the local indie theater to watch a film called Departures that I really wanted to see - alone. I didn’t want to go with friends or my husband. Going to the movies alone was something I loved to do when I was single but haven’t done it once since I got married. For some reason I thought that it all of a sudden was weird to do so I stopped. Then it dawned on me - I’m still the same person and doing things alone is fine a good idea!
I don’t just mean getting to take a long bath while your spouse watches the kids or going to the grocery store by yourself, but really taking the time to do something on your own. We spend so much making time for our husbands,, wives, kids, co-workers, bosses, friends and family that we sometimes forget about ourselves. Taking time to do something you enjoy on your own only makes you more willing and able to give your all to your spouse.
Side note - I was the ONLY PERSON in the theater. Talk about awesome - fantastic movie (went through TEN TISSUES) and an entire theater to myself. Rock on!
