Amazingly, a law bill in Afghanistan that would allow a husband to starve his wife if she denied him sex has become law.  The bill angered the afghan civil rights groups so much earlier this year that the president withdrew it but here we are, living in a world where starving ones wife is acceptable if she’s not in the mood.  It was said that President Hamid Karzai bowed to the pressure of the upcoming election and passed the bill into law to gain the Shia support.

The original bill stated that if a wife didn’t allow her husband sex every four days, he could take what was rightfully his.  Basically it was a bill that allowed for rape.  The swiftly and quietly passed with a few minor changes.  Wives can either give it up or go without food, if their husbands so decide.

Our world is filled with different cultures and social norms, but I cannot understand how there can still be nations that would overlook the rights of someone based on their gender or race.  What a disguesting misuse of the law.  I feel for the women of Afghanistan and for the people of the country that their leadership cares so little for its people.
