A Presidential Marriage

Posted by Heather on December 25th, 2008

George W. Bush has had a less than stellar run as president and I’m sure it’s with mixed emotions he leaves the White House.  Now my thoughts turned to Laura Bush - how difficult it must be to see your husband under constant scrutiny.  I hope Michelle Obama is ready.  Anyway, I cannot imagine the stress a presidental marriage must go through, but recently in an article George W. Bush said that his marriage actually got stronger over the last 8 years.

In an interview given to NBC news, Bush opened up quite a bit about his marriage.  He said that his is a “nester” and they enjoy having their evening meal together and read together.  He said of the White House -   ”It can be a place with a lot of love and warmth… and ours has been that way.”  Isn’t that sweet?  If a man who has gone through as much as any president can go through can say that, I think we can all work a little more on our own marriage.

Laura Bush also weighed in during the interview as to how their family made it through the last 8 years. ”The emotional support that we give to each other and that our children give to us and we give to them … is so necessary,” she said.

The Bushes watch spots together and Laura also let the public know this little tidbit about their time together as a couple - ”We do puzzles. We like to do jigsaw puzzles. We have those upstairs.”

No matter how you feel about the current president, you have to admit it’s nice to know that the Bushes leaned on one another during his administration.
