Are You My Spouse or My Twin?

Posted by Heather on December 22nd, 2008

I’ve noticed a disturbing trend in the clothing owned by my husband and I.  I look in the closet and I noticed that we own the same colors.  Obviously, my husband isn’t wearing herringbone wide legged trousers, but he does have a pair of pants that are like the man version.  Our casual clothes - almost identical in color.  We get dressed to go hiking and inevidently we look all too similar for it not to be weird.

I think it’s probably because I pick out a lot of his clothing.  I navigate toward earthy tones, but I think it’s time to start buying him stuff that’s so far beyond what I would wear so we don’t look like weird tourists or something.  I hope Mr. Diva looks good in purple, because I don’t.  I’m keeping the good colors for myself.  He’ll have to fend for himself.  Nothing says manly like a bearded, 6′4″ man in a pink shirt.

No, I don’t think that will work.  I think Mr. Diva and I are doomed to wear matching palettes on casual outings.

Have you noticed that you are your spouse gravitating toward similar things as time goes on?  Do you find yourselves ordering the same food at restaurants (ruining any chances of plate picking)?  Or have you ever bought each other the same Christmas present (2 iPods under the tree)?  The longer you’re together as a couple you start thinking alike, yes, but sometimes the creepiness that happens in marriages is downright weird!
