The Marriage Diet

Posted by Heather on September 28th, 2008

Work has been pretty hectic lately and I’ve been eating what and when I can.  Bad food seems to be catching up for me, so I need to be a little more conscience of what I’m putting in my mouth.  I’m still wearing the same pants, they just aren’t quite as roomy as they were a couple weeks ago.

So now it a matter of sticking to an eating and exercise plan. I find it both easier and more difficult to do it as a couple. It’s easier because you can be accountable to another person. Built in group meeting every evening. Harder because when one of you craves something, the other has to hang onto their willpower a little tighter.

Randy is an engineer. An engineer through and through. Love him more than chocolate, but he wants to know WHY his has to do exercises a certain way. WHY is it better to maintain a steady pace for a longer period of time on the elliptical rather than go full speed for a shorter period of time. It’s not good enough to tell him that keeping your heart rate up makes your body burn calories and fat for a longer period of time after you stop. He wants to know not only the WHY, but HOW you body does what it does. Do I look like a phys ed teacher?

But I love him and I like having another activity we can do together.  Once the weather clears up we can start walking together too.  It’s good to get away and do something healthy with no distraction around.  On the weekends we like to go hiking when we can too.  Not only healthy for the body, but healthy for the marriage too!

Why kind of physical activity do you do with your spouse or do you like like to workout alone?
