Garage Sale Reflections

As I write this, I’m sitting in my garage waiting for more people to buy my precious belongings are bargain basement prices at our community garage sale. While organizing the sale we both found ourselves in a difficult situation - selling gifts we’ve given one another.

We both put a lot of thought into our gift giving and we both know that the other person appreciated the gift but there comes a point when you no long need say, tea candle wall sconces or a beer making kit. Some people take offense to their gifts being sold, regifted or donated to charity. Luckily, we are both pragmatists at heart and know that the item was loved but it’s time to give it up. If I held on to every gift someone I loved gave to me, I’d be sitting on a crapload of Barbies with shaved heads and Monchichis right now.

Don’t take offense if a gift you gave your spouse no longer gets used or ends up in the tax donation pile. Remember you gave it out of love and your spouse surely appreciated the effort and thought. Hopefully they got good use out of it, but sometimes it’s just time to declutter to make room for new memories (i.e. presents)!
