Marriage Grammar Lesson

According to the dictionary, the word married is an adjective or noun and I’m not going to argue with Merriam OR Webster, but I think couple should think about married as more. Married is not just a person, place or thing nor does it just describe you as a couple or an individual. Married should be an action; a verb.

It’s so easy when things are running like clockwork to go about your day to day activities and just “be married”. I’m not saying your unhappy; on the contrary, you might be perfectly happy! Happiness! Joy! But do you think about the marriage? Do you act married.

This doesn’t mean go out and buy flowers or wear trash lingerie for your spouse, it means actually thinking about this person as a whole. Don’t think about their physical reaction, it’s time to put your words into action. Really “marry” your spouse.

Have you heard you spouse say how upsetting work has been of late? Have they been talking about issues they’re having with friends?

What did you do when you heard these complaints? Did you just nod and throw in the occasion “uh-huh”?

How about the next time, ask questions. Get the other to talk more. Show interest. MARRY your spouse. Be there for them; join them in the trenches.
