Where have all the favors gone?
What’s a marriage without a wedding, right? Big or small, most married people I know had some kind of ceremony and reception. And now that wedding season is upon us, it’s time to address a very serious issue happening with weddings today. I’m talking about something devastating - the lack of wedding favors.
I recently had a conversation with a married girlfriend about a wedding she recently attended. You see, married woman are WEDDING EXPERTS. The moment the reception of your own wedding is over, you suddenly know everything there is to know about throwing the perfect wedding . It gives us free reign to be all catty analyze every wedding we attend from now until the end of time.
Anyway, she told me about the dress, the bridesmaids and their unfortunate necklines, the surprisingly tasty food and then she dropped the bombshell - no wedding favors. Nary a jordan almond wrapped in tulle in sight!! Come on!
This is not the first time I’ve heard of this in recent years. I, too, have been to several weddings that lack a tasty snack or book of matches on my place setting. Come on, I’ve gotten dressed up, given you a generous gift and now I’m missing Cops for the reception. The least you could do is give me same damn M&M’s!
I wondered if wedding favors were out, so I did a little research on the web. Nope, wedding favors are alive and well and even BETTER than what I gave out at my wedding. So if you are planning a wedding or know someone who is, let them know there’s no excuse not to have something for the guests. A good favor makes the wedding a little more memorable and since we’re forced to eat green bean almondine for dinner it’s the least you can do.
Not that I want to do my wedding over again, but I really liked the personalize tea sachet. It doesn’t break the bank, it’s unique and who doesn’t like a nice cup of tea after wearing heals at a wedding for 5 hours?

I’ve never seen the tea bag favors before. Very classy. We went with bookmarks that had an Emerson quote and then our names and the date. We had a ton, and it’s fun to see my kids using some of the leftovers now. Some friends of ours had people send in recipes with their R.S.V.P.s, then compiled a cookbook for favors for the guests. I use that cookbook so often!!!
