So here’s the plot – a high powered politician gets divorced and turns around and starts an undercover relationship with a beautiful model. Only weeks after the relationship becomes public, they decide to get married. And this isn’t a plot to a new Kate Hudson chick flick; no this is the situation in with France’s president Nicholas Sarkozy and his ex-model girlfriend Carla Bruni. Although the marriage talk is only rumor at this point, it’s causing quite a stir.

Here’s a timeline of the soap opera Sarkozy calls a life. He’s elected president of France in May. He and his wife announce they are divorcing in October. By December, he’s being seen with Bruni. Doesn’t he have a country to run? Does France just run itself? Go ahead and insert your own French joke here.

So now President Sarkozy supposedly gave Bruni, the glamorous ex-supermodel a heart shaped (read: TACKY) engagement ring and they are planning to wed in early February. Again, this is all media rumor but let’s pretend it’s true because it’s fun.

Marriage takes a lot of work and the beginning of a marriage is a real adjustment. In fact, I would caution anyone from getting married and starting a new career in tandem. I’m not saying it’s impossible, I just think both are difficult and if it can be avoided give your marriage or your job a year. Sarkozy has started leading a nation, divorced and may start a new marriage and he hasn’t even hit the year mark at president. This also begs the question; can he effectively do his job with so much going on in his personal life? And if the answer to that is yes, then can he truly be in the right frame of mind to begin a marriage?
