He’s Succeeded in Changing my Temperature

Posted by Heather on November 19th, 2007

My husband has mystical powers.

Powers that changed my core body temperature.

For the first few years, we lived the typical life. I was always cold and he was always hot. Slowly, I found myself shedding layers. No more sweatshirts in the summer, shorts in the winter. Then I would turn the heat down, even when he wasn’t around. I could blame global warming but the numbers do not lie. Last week it was 63 degrees in my house and I didn’t make a peep about it. Yes, I was bundled up - tshirt, sweatshirt, warm pants, the whole nine but I wasn’t going into a cold coma. The cats were another story, all rolled up like potato bugs on laundry piles.

How did this happen?! Can marriage change your temperature too? I’m still amazed how much we rub off on one another. Like when he points out a woman with too much makeup on or refers to a color using a word other than its primary counterpart.

Does the hot and cold battle still happen in your house?

We are still on opposite sides of the temp scale. It’s kind of annoying- I just want to be comfortable!

My parents have been married for 30 years and only recently are they both comfortable at the same time. Granted it’s about 100 degrees in their house…I guess that’s what we have to look forward to!

YES! After five and a half years of marriage (it’ll be six on December 1st), we should have been able to reach a common ground with the house temperature. Likewise, I’m always cold. He keeps the heat low in the winter, and the air condition on full blast in the summer. I’ve given up. This is one battle he can win. I just make sure to keep a portable heater in the winter, and wear my sweats in the summer.
